Tipsarevic: I’d like to avoid Nadal
Serbian tennis player number two Janko Tipsarevic has been on a positive spell of performances lately. Last week he reached the quarter-final of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami – his best ever result – while on Monday he received confirmation of these results of the late, having ascended the ATP rankings list and now takes his career best place 38.
- “I’m happy with the 38th position, but my goal is to be one of the seeded players at Grand Slam tournaments. Even if I fail in doing that, it won’t be a shame; I’d only love to keep away from Davydenko and Nadal in the early stages,” says Tipsarevic.
The Serbia international has said he is uncertain whether he will be appearing at the Valencia Open, as there is little time to get adjusted to the change of surface.
- “I don’t have enough time to get ready for the clay court season, but might just register to play in Valencia and use it for practice. Even if I’m knocked out in the first round I’ll stay another week in order to adjust myself to the surface,” Tipsarevic said at the promotion of postage stamps bearing the sketches of Serbian tennis stars, a series launched specially for the Olympic Games in Beijing this year.
The set named “Tennis – Serbia Olympic team” comprises five different stamps with faces of five Serbian tennis stars and is the work of painter Marina Kalezic. The special edition depicts Nenad Zimonjic, Janko Tipsarevic, Novak Djokovic, Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic.
Also present at the official promotion were Minister for Sports and Youth Snezana Samardzic-Markovic and the representatives from the Serbian Olympic Committee, Serbian Tennis Federation, PTT (Serbian Posts) and the City of Belgrade.
